Steel City Downhill Race
Riding over to Sheffield from Halifax on the single speed is always a grind, but an enjoyable one. Keeping the route as off-road as possible is a challenge, especially with the event starting at 11:30 a.m. I rolled out at 7:30 a.m. to meet my fellow riders in Huddersfield an hour later.
The ride was a good mix of road and bridleways, with a much-needed coffee stop at Wortley to refuel and reset before the final push into Sheffield.
Once there, we caught some racing, tucked into a bowl of chilli, and then pointed the bikes back towards Halifax, again chasing as much off-road as we could find.
62 miles, 5,000 feet of climbing, and a soaking downpour to finish it off, not a bad day out at all.
