Exploring Thetford Forest: A 56-Mile Gravel Adventure
On Saturday, March 22nd, I embarked on a 56-mile gravel ride around the picturesque Thetford Forest, organised by Gravel X. With a route comprising 65% gravel and 35% tarmac, this event promised a perfect blend of rugged terrain and smooth riding.
While the busy tarmac roads did interrupt the otherwise serene experience, the stunning Suffolk countryside made up for it. The landscape is notably flat, navigation was easy as it was all signposted and we had more time to soak in the beautiful surroundings. The weather was a treat, featuring warm temperatures punctuated by sunny intervals, which added to the joy of the ride.
Two well-placed food stops along the route provided much-needed energy and a chance to refuel. These breaks not only helped recharge our bodies but also offered moments to chat with fellow riders, sharing stories and camaraderie.
Despite the few stretches of tarmac, the dry ground conditions contributed to a smooth ride, making it a fantastic gravel event overall. I left Thertfors Forest feeling grateful for a day spent in nature, surrounded by fellow cycling enthusiasts. If you’re looking for a blend of adventure and scenic beauty, I highly recommend this ride for next year!
