Breaking the Grey: Riding Through Calderdale’s Cold Snap

The relentless grey cloud that has stubbornly clung to the UK for the past two weeks has finally lifted. After a couple of weeks of a cold easterly wind cutting through everything, the sky has opened up, revealing a much-needed glimpse of blue. It’s a relief, even if the temperatures are still sharp.

The cold has definitely dictated the riding lately. My usual long days out on the singlespeed and fat-bike have been swapped for shorter loops around Calderdale, keeping the legs spinning but never straying too far from warmth. There’s something about the crisp air and frozen trails that makes every ride feel a little wilder, even when it’s just a quick blast before retreating indoors.

With the weather shifting, here’s hoping for longer rides ahead—without the bite of that bitter wind.
